Introducing Symetra's Cancer Care Compass

03-28-2024

Whether it’s through a friend, family member, colleague or your own diagnosis, we’ve all been touched by cancer in some way. Nearly 40% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime,1 and it’s reported that 42% of cancer deaths could be prevented through lifestyle changes.2

Symetra would like to be part of a bigger solution—one that can help empower you and your clients to be proactive about their health and their futures. That’s Symetra is proud to introduce Symetra’s Cancer Care Compass.

Inspired by our own employees’ personal cancer experiences, Cancer Care Compass (PDF) is a first-of-its-kind rider package offering a unique combination of cancer care benefits and services to help clients live longer and healthier lives. It’s available at application for an additional cost on Symetra’s market-leading indexed universal life (IUL) products,3 starting tomorrow, March 29, 2024, in select states.

Benefits and services include:

Multi-cancer early detection test
Provides insureds access to the Galleri® multi-cancer early detection test by GRAIL that looks for a signal across more than 50 types of cancer—including many that are not commonly screened for. If a cancer signal is detected, Galleri can point to where in the body the cancer is located to guide further diagnostic evaluation.4

Health advocacy services
Health AdvocateSM helps policyowners and their eligible family members with services like resolving insurance-related issues, wellness coaching, negotiating bill payments, and a 24/7 registered nurse hotline.

Nutrition intervention, guidance and support
Savor Health® provides policyowners and their eligible family members with on-demand access to personalized, evidence-based nutrition interventions that can help prevent and manage chronic conditions like cancer. Services include customized recipes, menu plans and 24/7 online nutrition support, all through the convenience of text messaging with a virtual dietitian-on-demand.

Cash benefit
If the insured is diagnosed with a qualifying cancer, Symetra pay a cash benefit they can use toward insurance deductibles and copays, to replace lost income, for travel and lodging, or for anything else they choose. There are no restrictions on how the money is used. At application, policyowners simply select the Cancer Care Compass cash benefit amount they prefer.

State availability
Cancer Care Compass is currently approved for sale in 26 states (PDF). We’ll communicate additional state approvals as they are received.

4The Galleri screening test does not detect a signal for all cancers, and all cancers cannot be detected in the blood. False positive and false negative signal results do occur. The Galleri test should be used in addition to health care provider recommended screening tests. Detection of a cancer signal is not a diagnosis of cancer. If a cancer signal is detected, the insured will be responsible for the cost of follow-up diagnostic procedures.
