A.M. Best Upgrades Rating for Transamerica

We are very pleased to announce that A.M. Best Co. has upgraded the financial strength rating of the AEGON companies to A+ (Superior) from A (Excellent).
According to a press release issued yesterday by Best's Insurance News, this rating action reflects "consideration of AEGON's overall creditworthiness and the strategic and financial importance of the U.S. operations to AEGON." It also states that AEGON companies benefit "from meaningful economies of scale, strong brand recognition and effective asset/liability and liquidity management." The release goes on to remark that the "earnings mix is one of the more diversified in the industry" and that AEGON "undertook various initiatives during 2009 to de-risk its balance sheet and improve its risk profile."
The rating upgrade pertains to the following companies.
