At times, New Business/Underwriting may request a Health Amendment. This bulletin provides you with additional information as to why Health Amendments are requested, what to do in the event that you become aware of a change in your client’s health, and how the returned Health Amendment will be processed by New Business/Underwriting.
A Health Amendment may be required for various reasons. Some of the most common are:
• The Part II non-medical application and/or other medical documents relating to the insured are dated:
Up to age 81, if they are between 90 days and 6 months prior to approval and issue.
For age 81 and older, if they are between 30 days and 3 months prior to issue and approval
• There is believed to be a change in health for the proposed insured, and the proposed insured has not consulted a doctor or medical facility since the date of the Part II non-medical.
When Underwriting requests a Health Amendment, New Business will include it with the contract. The Health Amendment is to be signed, dated and returned to BUA with any other delivery requirements. Because ING needs to determine whether the client’s health has changed, a policy will not be put “in force” until the Health Amendment and other delivery requirements are returned to ING and reviewed/approved.
Reminders:
• As the agent, if you are aware of a change in your client’s health, you should NOT deliver the contract and should immediately contact BUA to discuss the situation.
• If you become aware of a change in your client’s health upon delivery of the contract (or even before delivery of the contract), even without a Health Amendment requirement, do not deliver the policy. Instead, contact BUA for additional instructions.
• If the Health Amendment is returned with a request to reissue the contract for any reason, a new Health Amendment will be required to be signed/dated, returned to the Home Office and reviewed/approved before a contract is put in force.
