According to LIMRA International, 68 million adult Americans have no life insurance. And those who do, have considerably less than most experts recommend. To increase public awareness about the importance of life insurance, the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education designated September as Life Insurance Awareness Month. BUA, along with more than 100 leading insurance companies and industry trade groups, has participated in the effort to collectively support a wide range of marketing communications efforts.
Actor and former Saturday Night Live cast member Molly Shannon knows firsthand the consequences of not having adequate life insurance coverage. Shannon–selected by the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education as this year's national Life Insurance Awareness Month spokesperson--is sharing her family's story and hopes to encourage people to get serious about protecting their family's finances.
At the age of 4, Molly was in a car accident that took the lives of her 33-year-old mother, her cousin and younger sister. Along with Molly, her father and older sister survivied, but her father was badly injured and unable to work for years. "People don't like to think about bad things happening to them," Shannon says, "but putting off the decision to deal with that possibility can have serious consequences." That's something Shannon knows all too well.
Prudential is pleased to join forces with the industry to support this important effort.
